September 2nd

Here's what we did today:
Reading-We learned how to write a book recommendation so our friends can get ideas for good books to read.

Writing-Today we looked at a poem by Kenn Nesbitt on http://www.poetry4kids.com/.  We discussed how the poem is organized into stanzas and what the rhyming pattern is.  Students then chose a line or stanza of the poem and used it as a writing generator.  We will work on poetry most Fridays this year.

Math-We learned how to round numbers.  This is a difficult concept for many students and we will continue to work on it.  I am planning a Chapter 2 test next Thursday, the 8th.

Social Studies-We continued learning about the midwest.

Word Study-Groups 3 and 4 received their word list while Groups 1 and 2 prepared their words for the sorty we will do on Tuesday and worked on their contract.

Homework:
Read!

Math-WS 2.4--odd numbered problems and all of the Mixed Review

Social Studies-Work on states and capitals.  Remember, the test is September 29th.

Have a great 3 day weekend!
