May 22

We made it through the last full day!  Students worked on cleaning out their desks, cubbies, etc. and finishing up some odds and ends.  They "Flew Up" to 5th grade to meet all the teachers this afternoon. 

Some reminders for tomorrow:
It is a half day so lunch will not be served.

Students should wear Concord gear and a hat for our assembly.

They do not have to bring their book bags, but may want to as they'll be bringing home their Writing Portfolio and tesselations tomorrow.

The kids had a great time eating ice cream sundaes and painting bricks for the garden walkway! Thanks to all who helped out and donated items!

End of Year

Hello!  Make sure you scroll all the way down.  There are a lot of pictures from our field trip (Thanks Ms. Yocum!) and Fun Day!  The kids had a lot of fun this morning and got VERY wet :)  Here's a few reminders for this last week of school.

Tuesday: Dunk Tank--Yes, I will be in the Dunk Tank tomorrow morning!  Tomorrow afternoon is our Class Party.  If you would like to donate something for the kids buckets of treats, please send it in tomorrow morning.  Any fun summer items, candy, etc. would be great! 

Wednesday: Fly-Up Day

We had a great time on our field trip today!  Students got to participate in a bartering and trading activity, play pioneer games, tour the Daniel Boone home, and get a pioneer lesson in an old school house!  I will put up pictures soon.  Thanks so much to Mrs. Yocum and Mrs. Noack for coming along with us! 

Yesterday I incorrectly posted that our class party is on Wednesday, but it is on Tuesday of next week. 

Students are off tomorrow, but I hope to see many of you up at the Spirit Festival on Saturday.

Monday is Field Day so please make sure your child wears sunscreen to school and dresses for the weather.  A reminder that no flip flops are allowed to be worn at school and no spaghetti straps.  Hats/sunglasses are ok for Monday.

May 15th

We had the Junior Achievement Program today and students learned the ins and outs of running a successful business!  We also met with our buddies to plant some seeds in the garden by the playground.  Groups 3/4 took their Word Study tests and students had time to work on their tesselations or stories.

Homework:
Writing-Fictional Stories are due MONDAY.  I will try to give students time to work on this tomorrow after the field trip, but most likely, most students will have to finish over their weekend.  I need them by Monday so that I can get them graded and students can include them in their Writing Portfolios we are making next week.

Math-Tesselations are due WEDNESDAY.  Most students will probably finish in class, but some may be bringing them home on Tuesday night.

Reading-We did not have time to meet in lit. circles today, but will finish them up either tomorrow or Tuesday.


Upcoming Events:
Thursday 5/16--Field trip to Daniel Boone: Students need to bring a sack lunch and drink and dress for the weather.  One of our activities involves running and playing games so tennis shoes are best.  Cross your fingers the rain stays away!

Saturday 5/18--Spirit Festival!

May 14th

Today in Math students worked on their tesselations.  In Writing, we edited the fictional stories.  We discussed how to write a book review in Reading and Groups 1/2 took their Word Study test while Groups 3/4 did a buddy check.

Homework:
Reading-Lit. Groups finish up tomorrow.  Students need to write a review (on edmodo or paper) that has a summary, what they liked and didn't like, and who they would recommend it to.  These should be written creatively.

Writing-Some students may need to finish editing.

I hope all the Mothers had a great Mother's Day yesterday!  Today we began a tesselation project in Math, revised in Writing, and met in lit. circles.  Groups 1 and 2 did a buddy check.

Homework:
Reading-Lit. Circles meet WEDNESDAY (due to Thursday's field trip)

Math-Measurement tests were handed back.  Some need to be signed and students may correct missed problems to earn some points back.

Word Study-Groups 1/2 test tomorrow, Groups 3/4 test Wednesday

Book Fair

Just a reminder that Monday our class is headed to the Book Fair!  It is only on Monday and Tuesday so please send money with your child on Monday if they would like to purchase anything.  Thanks and have a great weekend!
