December 18th

Today in Math students worked on a Snowman Construction activity which involves measurement conversions, money, and all four operations!  In Writing, they finished up persuasive letters and are working on elf applications.  In Reading we read The Bat Boy and His Violin and used many different reading strategies, including questioning, to understand the story better.  Groups 1 and 2 took their Word Study test and Groups 3 and 4 did a buddy check.

Homework:
Writing-Some students need to finish their persuasive letters.

I will be out tomorrow as we are finalizing my son's adoption!  Mrs. Nikodem will be the sub so the kids will be in good hands.  I'll be back on Thursday!  Have a great night!

December 17th

Can you believe it's the last week before break?!  We have a busy few days ahead of us!  Today in Math students worked on finishing up their stations from last week.  In Writing, they are finishing their persuasive letters and beginning an application to be an elf!  We visited the library in Reading and had a visit from our first grade buddies.  Students reviewed for their upcoming test in Science.

Homework:
Math-Tests were handed back and students should make any corrections TONIGHT.  Some students also have to finish their fact fluency packet.

December 14th

First off, thanks to everyone who sent in Adopt a Family items and helped with the project in any way!  It was a huge success and our class brought in 653 items! 

Today students took their Math test and began publishing their persuasive letters.  They also worked in reading groups and continued with their projects on Storybird.com.

December 13th

Today we went over the Math practice test and students worked in their stations.  In Writing students peer-revised their letters and began to edit them.  We learned about Storybird.com and students worked with a partner to create an online story using the story elements we've been learning about.  I also met with Groups 1 and 2 to go over their sort.

Today students took the Unit 4 practice test in Math and worked on their station activities.  In Writing we drafted our persuasive letters and talked about good transitions.  We continued with story elements in Reading and Groups 3 and 4 got their words in Word Study.

Hannah-Star of the Week!


December 11th

Today we learned how to add commas and decimal points when multiplying money.  We drafted our persuasive letters and worked together to identify story elements.  Groups 1 and 2 got their new spelling lists.

December 10th

It was great to see many of you last night at the holiday show!  The kids did a great job and put on a fantastic show!  Today we started some new Math Centers and are working hard on problem solving and multiplication.  We also began to organize our persuasive letters and took the Reading eValuate.

December 7th

Today we took the Math eValuate and went over last month's.  Students also met with a partner in Writing to practice their persuasive arguments and make any adjustments.  We visited the book fair this afternoon and did our Daily Five.

December 6th

Today we had a bit of a crazy morning, but those students who weren't at the strings rehearsal worked some more on 2 by 2 digit multiplication. Mrs. Critchlow also came in for a counseling lesson. We visited the book fair this afternoon, read, and began a grammar activity with our names.

Today we learned 2 by 2 digit multiplication!  We also worked on some more persuasive reasons for our crazy pet writing assignment.

December 4th

Today in Math we used estimation to multiply 2x2 digit numbers.  In Writing, we read I Wanna Iguana and discussed valid and invalid reasons that could be used to persuade.  We read The Princess and the Pizza in reading and identified predictable vs. surprising story elements.  Groups 3 and 4 took their Word Study test.  We ended the day with a TFK on the recent election.

Reading-TFK due tomorrow (Students who were at Resource/Speech/Leap/Etc. may have until Thursday)

Tomorrow is Early Release at 1:40.

We will be going to the Scholastic Book Fair on Thursday and Friday.  A flier with the books was sent home today along with a BUNCH of other mail. 

This week's Adopt a Family focus is personal care products. Thanks to Max and Sarah who have brought in many toothbrushes and toothpaste for the familes and to all who have been sending in items!

Today in Math we learned to solve simpler problems when multiplying large numbers.  In Writing, we began a persuasive letter asking for an unusual pet and brainstormed why we wanted one and what our readers might say in response.  In Reading we visited the library and Groups 1 and 2 took their Word Study test while Groups 3 and 4 did a buddy check.

Our field trip was so much fun today!  Thank you to all the parent volunteers . . . we couldn't have done it without you!  Make sure to check out the pictures below.  This afternoon, we identified story elements in Thundercake and groups 1 and 2 did a buddy check.
